A man who was found unconscious after an apparent hit-and-run in North
Dublin last December has died after more than six months in hospital.
The incident occurred in the early hours of December 27 last year on the R128 Skerries to Loughshinny Road.
Callum 'Cal' Grimes (27), was found unconscious on the side of the
road in Loughshinny by a passer-by at about 8.30am that morning, but it
is suspected that he was knocked down hours before.

He was from the St Catherine’s estate in Rush.

Mr Grimes sustained serious injuries when he was apparently hit by a vehicle that failed to remain at the scene.
A local resident reported hearing a bang from the direction of the road outside her home sometime between 1am and 2am, but gardai do not know if the noise was related to the victim’s injuries.

“I heard a bang outside sometime between 1am and 2am, and then my
husband saw the fire brigade outside at around 8.30am, and now I wonder
if the two things are connected,” one local woman told the Herald at the
time.
Gardai made several appeals for information from the public in relation to the incident.
They also appealed for the driver of a blue Volkswagen Transporter

One man in his 30s was arrested and questioned at Balbriggan in relation to the incident but later released without charge.
Mr Grimes was out socialising on St Stephen’s night at a bar in Skerries about 5km away from where he was found.
It is believed he was unable to get a taxi and started walking home along the narrow road.

He died at Beaumont Hospital last Friday and a post mortem is due to
be carried out on his body tomorrow before it is released to his family
so that funeral arrangements can be made.
