Thai woman 'tricked' into carrying cocaine by Nigerian boyfriend sentenced to life imprisonment

A Cambodia court has sentenced a 22-year-old Thai woman to life imprisonment for trafficking 2.5 kilogrammes of cocaine from the United Arab Emirates. Amphawan Kaewkanlaya claimed she was tricked into carrying the drugs by her Nigerian boyfriend's older brother. She was also fined 60 million riel (about 535,000 baht).    Police found packages of cocaine, totaling 2.5kg, hidden in boxes of Lindt chocolates in her luggage. "The court has decided to give her a life sentence and a fine of 60 million riel to be put in the national budget," Phnom Penh Municipal Court presiding judge Heng Kessaror said in passing judgement on Thursday, January 5th. "The court orders the confiscation of the drugs seized and other drug-related material to be destroyed," he added. Amphawan said she would appeal the judgement and maintained she was innocent. Nigerian man arraigned in Cambodia court for fraud

Nigerian national and a Cambodian were arraigned before the Phnom Penh Municipal Court on Friday, January 27, for their involvement in a scheme to steal $300 from a Cambodian woman through a fake promotional contest.    37-year-old Uchechukwu Vincent and 27-year-old Sarim Kunthea had been charged with fraud after being sued by Keo Sotheary, 28, and arrested on September 8, 2016.   “They were arrested by the police while coming to get $300 from the victim at a Wing transfer shop in Chom Chao commune," Judge Ros Piseth said, adding that police had seized the money during the arrest.   According to court documents, the pair called the woman and told her she won first prize in a promotional contest in September 2016. But Ms. Sotheary was told to send them $300 through Wing for “information and preparation for receiving the prize.”   Ms. Sotheary became suspicious when she received several follow-up calls asking her to send the money.   She filed a complaint with police

Female Prison Officer Caught Smuggling Inmate’s Sperm Out Of Prison

A 47-year-old female prison official has been caught with what is said to be the sperm of one of the prisoners she was supervising. The lady, Alison, was caught when a container of spe-rm belonging to a 32-year-old convicted kidnapper, Marvin, was found in her handbag during a routine search. Marvin and his twin brother, Michael, were notorious for hijacking cars and kidnapping motorists, shooting their way around. Alison, a mother of three, said she wanted to use the spe-rm in an IVF procedure, where fertilised egg is implanted into a female recipient (probably herself). A search of her home revealed a love letter from the prisoner, hidden in her underwear drawer. Authorities hold that inappropriate relationships between staff and prisoners are very dangerous and can often lead to other criminal activity which puts the public at further risk. Alison was subsequently jailed in the UK for nine months after being convicted of misconduct.

Two Americans Including Eight-Year-Old Girl Die In Donald Trump's First Anti-Terror Raid

Two Americans were killed in Donald Trump's first anti-terror raid on foreign soil - an eight-year-old girl whose father was an al-Qaeda leader, and a Navy SEAL Team Six member involved in the mission. Nawar al-Awlaki, also known as Nora, was among the non-combatants killed - along with several women - in Sunday's military operation at an Al-Qaeda camp in Yemen. he was the daughter of Anwar al-Awlaki , a dual US-Yemeni citizen who was the first American to die in a US drone strike. The other American citizen killed in the raid was Chief Petty Officer William 'Ryan' Owens, 36, who died during a gun battle. Her 16-year-old brother, Abdulrahman, also a US citizen, was killed in a drone strike in Yemen two weeks after their father died in 2011. 5-year-old Iranian American boy handcuffed and held for 5 hours at airport in US because he could be a 'security threat'

A five-year-old boy was detained at Washington DC's Dulles airport  on Saturday  after President Trump signed the executive order banning citizens of some countries. The boy was handcuffed and held for five hours, an act which Donald Trump's Press secretary, Sean Spencer, has defended. Spencer said: “To assume that just because of someone’s age and gender that they don’t pose a threat would be misguided and wrong."    Senator Van Hollen called the treatment of the boy "outrageous" and revealed that he had been held for too long, despite the authorities being notified in advance of his arrival. After his release, his mother was seen kissing him as she was reunited with her son. The boy is a US citizen, resident in Maryland but is believed to have been born in Iran, a factor that most likely exposed him to the discrimination he suffered.

A black woman of Nigerian decent has become the first black woman to have two white children. The probability of this happening once has been calculated to be less than one in a million. Catherine Howarth, a Financial analyst who is married to Richard Howarth believed to have a recessive gene which resulted to the birth of her son, Jonah who was completely white and had blue eyes.    She was completely stunned when she gave birth to her second child and discovered she was also completely white. According to the just released death certificate of late Mary Tyler Moore, she died from cardiopulmonary arrest brought on by 3 other serious medical condition. The other contributing factors to her death include aspiration pneumonia, hypoxia (lack of oxygen to her tissues) and diabetes mellitus. Cardiopulmonary arrest is when the heart stops beating which is technically not a heart attack. The death certificate shows Moore was pronounced dead at 2:15 PM on January 25, 2017, the 80-year-old actress died in a Connecticut hospital after life support was withdrawn.

A French-Canadian university student known for far-right nationalist views was charged with six counts of murder over the shooting rampage at a Quebec City mosque  on Sunday . The 27-year-old suspect identified as Alexandre Bissonnette made a brief court appearance and did not enter a plea on the attack which left six people dead and 19 others wounded during evening prayers. Bissonnette, who has espoused support for the French far-right party of Marine Le Pen and had liked U.S. President Donald Trump on his Facebook page, was known to those who monitor extremist groups in Quebec, said François Deschamps, an official with a refugee advocacy group. Founder of Pac-Man, Masaya Nakamura dies at 91

Masaya Nakamura founder of Namco,  the arcade trailblazer known as the Father of Pac-Man has died at the age 91. Masaya created the Japanese company behind the wildly popular dot-munching video game, in 1955. It began with two electric horses on the roof of a department store. The company became Bandai Namco after its merger with a gaming company in 2005. Nakamura died on January 22, 2017 and the company announced his death on Monday, January 30, 2017. A private wake and funeral were held for Nakamura, and a separate memorial is currently being organized. The famous Pac-Man game sold more than 100,000 units in its first year in the United States and was named the world's most successful coin-operated video game by Guinness World Records in 1981.

Tanzania suspends mining after 15 workers were trapped for 3 days (Photos)

The Tanzanian government has reportedly suspended mining at a site in Grita town where 15 workers were trapped underground for three days. The suspension comes after Fourteen Tanzanians and one Chinese were rescued from the Chinese-owned gold mine on Saturday, January 28, 2017.  The trapped miners who looked weak after they were rescued are said to be receiving treatment at a health centre. In November 2016, five miners who were also trapped underground for more than 40 days, were also rescued. 

Update! Man who clung on moving helicopter in Kenya to undergo mental check up

Julius Mwithali, the man who clung to the moving helicopter carrying Raila Odinga last week, has been ordered to undergo mental check up. Appearing before the Maua Law Court today, January 30, 2017, he pleaded not guilty of attempted suicide and was subjected to a mental check up. According to Nairobi News, he will reappear before the same court on Friday, February 3, 2017. Julius Mwithali was arrested on Friday, January 27, 2017, after he swung up and sat on the landing skids of Raila's moving chopper.
