Wal-Mart Apologizes For Racist Description On Website

Wal-Mart issued an apology on Monday after a racist description showed up on a sales item on the retail giant’s website.

Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. quickly apologized after the racist description went viral on social media.

According to the NY Post, the description was posted by a third-party vendor who makes weave caps for black women who wear wigs and sew-in extensions.

The third party vendor described the netting’s color as “ni–er brown.”

Wal-Mart quickly removed the item and replaced the “Add To Cart” button with a message stating the item was no longer available.

“While we aim to provide accurate product information, it is provided by manufacturers, suppliers and others, and has not been verified by us,” a disclaimer read.

Not satisfied with the disclaimer, social media users dragged Wal-Mart for not doing better quality control.

A Wal-Mart spokeswoman issued an apology, saying the vendor was being investigated.

“We are very sorry and appalled that this third party seller listed their item with this description on our online marketplace,” spokeswoman Danit Marquardt said. “It is a clear violation of our policy, and has been removed, and we are investigating the seller to determine how this could have happened.”
