Moroccan TV apologises after giving makeup tips to women on how to camouflage traces of ‘Domestic Violence’

Moroccan state TV, 2M, has apologized after a makeup tip segment teaching women how to camouflage traces of domestic violence they aired on their TV sparked an outrage.

They showed aired on Wednesday, November 23, two days before the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Violence against women. Hours after the show aired, hundreds of women signed a petition demanding an apology from the TV channel.

The petition said: 'As Moroccan women and as feminist activists in Morocco, and in the name of all Moroccan people, we denounce the message of normalization with violence against women. We demand severe sanctions against this show, 'Sabahiyat', and the channel 2M.

In a statement released on Sunday, the state TV station admitted that the controversial makeup tip had been broadcast ‘in total contradiction with the editorial line of the channel.’  

The station also offered its ‘most sincere apologies for this misjudgment' and promised to take action against those responsible for the broadcast.
