Determined animal activists went to extreme lengths by burning themselves with red hot irons in a bid to condemn animal abuse.

Shocking footage shows the half-naked activists in France lining up to be burnt as part of an attempt to condemn animal abuse, RT reports .

In one disturbing scene a blood soaked woman, wearing just a black bra and shorts, lets out a scream as the iron is placed on her skin and leaves her with severe scarring. After more burning, footage then moves on to blood soaked protesters lying on the floor, wearing chains and ear tags in a bid to highlight the pain endured by animals.

There was also a "human butcher" on scene, displaying fake human limbs representing meat in a supermarket.

The group wanted to "change the perception of the corpses they put in the mouth in the name of culinary enjoyment."

Protesters were burnt with the number 269, placed on the end of the iron, because it represents the number of a calf found on one of Israel's factory farms.
