Bill Cosby has given up on his legal battle with Andrea Constand, the woman who accused the comedian of rape in 2004, in which he claimed breached their confidentiality agreement.
The entertainer headed to court on Thursday and filed a voluntary dismissal of his lawsuit against Constand, her lawyer and American Media Inc. It remains unclear what caused Cosby to cease his litigation with Constand after months of back-and-forth dueling lawsuits. But he dismissed the case without prejudice which means he can refile the lawsuit in the future if he wishes.
Earlier this month, Cosby was granted the right to continue his lawsuit against Constant, claiming she breached the terms of a confidentiality agreement she signed with him years before.
Former Temple University employee Constand was allegedly drugged and raped by the now-79-year-old comedian in 2004, but after police said there wasn’t enough evidence to charge him in 2005, she sued Cosby.
Cosby settled out of court in 2006, with one of the conditions being an agreement not to speak publicly about Constand’s claims - an agreement Cosby claims she broke.
