Brazil's World Cup-winning captain, Carlos Alberto passes away at age 72

Brazilian football legend Carlos Alberto, who scored one of the greatest World Cup goals in the 1970 World Cup final has died in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil following a heart attack. The defender made 53 appearances for Brazil and scored what is considered one of the greatest goals in World Cup history, a fierce low strike after a wonderful move in the 4-1 victory over Italy in the 1970 final, which he'll forever be remembered for.

One of his former clubs- Santos FC statement read in a statement today: “He played 445 matches and scored 40 goals from 1965-1975, and is considered the best right-back in the history of Praiano Alvinegro.” 'There will be a mourning period of three days.' Thanks for everything' Peter Siemsen, the president of another of his former club Fluminense said: “Very sad about the loss of our great captain Carlos Alberto Torres – one of the best in the history of world football. Formed in the Fluminense youth teams, the captain had tricolor blood. He took part in one of the great moments in the history of the club.”
