Rosa Otilia Ramirez was walking home after dropping her daughter off at school when a man approached her from behind. He ran up close behind Ms Otilia Ramirezn, who seems unaware of his presence. The man then casually took a pistol from the front of his jeans, aimed and shot her in the back of her head.
The ex-candidate for the Miss Guatemala beauty pageant fell forward on the pavement where she died. The shooter then turned and ran off immediately.
Horrifying CCTV footage showed the moment it happened. The incident took place on January 19 in Guatemala City.
Guatemalan media broadcast the footage of the murder while authorities have said that their initial investigations suggest that Ms Otilia Ramirez was killed by someone who knew her and are following up enquiries.
Officials said that the murder was premeditated and at present no suspects have been named and no one has been arrested. Authorities said that although a motive has not been established, they believe it could have been a "crime of passion".
